Utah State University Eastern Prehistoric Museum Unveils New Archaeology Exhibit

PRICE, UTAH — The Prehistoric Museum isn’t just about dinosaurs, and the spectacular new archaeology exhibit, “What Is Archaeology,” is a great example of the archaeological exhibits offered at the museum.

As Dr. Riley, the museum’s Curator of Archaeology explains, “Archaeology is more than just collecting artifacts, and this exhibit is designed to show the processes of archaeology from discovery and excavation, through analysis to interpretation and exhibit.” In striving to bring the best possible visitor experience to the public, the new exhibit has hands-on interactives that replicate what professional archaeologists do. How are arrowheads identified? What was a tool used for? An abundance of information, photos and explanations make the new exhibit visually enticing and informative.

As the museum continues to renovate older exhibits and add new exhibits, interactive features will be used whenever possible. “We want the museum to be more than a show place. We want the public to interact with it,” said Dr. Carpenter, the Prehistoric Museum’s director.

In conjunction with Archaeology Week, the unveiling of  “What Is Archaeology?” will take place at the museum at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 4th. What a great way to kick off the museum’s Family Activity Day event.
